Buddhist Response to Global Warming

John and Diane Stanley in Galway, Ireland, have created a wonderful website at http://www.ecobuddhism.org/ This website is a 'Buddhist Response to Global Warming' and includes interviews from many great masters including Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, Tsoknyi Rinpoche, as well as our own teacher Ringu Tulku. There are also numerous scientific articles and details of solutions and projects. This website is highly recommended.

Happy New Year 2008

We have lived another year
In this sweet and sour world.
But what have I done
That I can truly be proud of?

Did I waste my time sulking,
moaning and blaming myself and others?
Or did I look ahead and work
Joyfully on something worthwhile?

Let us all resolve to be more joyful,
More relaxed,
And above all kinder to oneself and others,
In this New Year of 2008.

With best wishes,
Ringu Tulku

New transcript

A new edited transcript of a teaching Rinpoche gave in Glasgow (Dharma Path and Goal) can now be found on our teachings page,
"Anybody can practice Dharma whether you are a Buddhist or whether you are not Buddhist, or whether you have any faith or you don’t have any faith, because practising Dharma is very much related to what kind of a person you are. If you are a good, positive person, and the way you act is with kindness, with compassion, something positive, you would say he’s kind of a Dharmic person."

Kagyu Monlam 2006

monlamThe International Kagyu Monlam is a festive prayer ceremony dedicated to increasing world peace and harmony. It is held each year in Bodhgaya in India. This year's Monlam begins on December 27th 2006 and continues until 3rd January 2007. His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, has presided over the International Kagyu Monlam since 2001 and this year will be teaching "Meditations on the Life Story and Vajra Songs of Milarepa " For full details please see www.kagyumonlam.org

This year's Monlam is especially important for the Bodhicharya Sangha because Ringu Tulku has been asked to help with the English translation of HH Karmapa's teachings. During the days of prayers there will be a special name burning ceremony for the dead and Rinpoche has very kindly agreed to take the names of relatives and friends of his Sangha to be included in this ceremony. If you would wish names to be included please email mgtfrd@aol.com before the end of December.

Following the Monlam, Rinpoche and his family will be making a pilgrimage to a number of sacred places in India in memory of his father who passed away this year. Rinpoche had invited his students to take part in this pilgrimage and he will be accompanied by students and friends from Europe as well as a group from South Africa.

For full details of the pilgrimage please see http://ringutulku.wordpress.com/pilgrimage-winter-2006-2007/

In the New Year we hope to be able to post personal accounts of the Monlam and pilgrimage from a number of Rinpoche's students. We also hope that a DVD will be available. Watch this space for more news about this!

INTRODUCTION TO POETS CORNER

As many of you will know, Ringu Tulku is a poet and, we have discovered recently that many of his students are also poets, or at least love poetry. This part of the Bodhicharya website will be dedicated to poetry contributions from students and friends of Ringu Tulku. Sometimes our emotions, whether joyous or sad, can be expressed more freely in poetic form, and this is an opportunity for us to share our thoughts about the Dharma through this beautiful and timeless medium. If you would like to contribute please contact
Margaret Ford at DSAF
