Guru Rimpoche

I was at meditation

Deep in contemplation

Eyes focused on empty space

Suddenly I saw your face

You emerged from the gloom

Into my humble room

I was startled and amazed

While at me you serenely gazed

The hair on my neck prickled

Irritated and prickled

I could not believe it true

That right before me it was you

I was filled with emotion

Tears fell in deep devotion

In torrents like a storm

As I knelt before your form

Your image stayed with me awhile

And I will never forget your smile

The brief encounter I will always hold dear

My vision of you was crystal clear.

Plan to Meditate

I decided that I must

Sit and meditate or bust

But as in the plans of mice and men

It was always a question of when

I settled down, then let out a moan

As I had to get up to answer the phone

And so again once more

I sat cross legged on the floor

Then the postman knocked on the door

By now my patience was worn

When I heard the blare of a car horn

Another person slammed the gate

There went my plans to meditate!

The Hermit

In a cave

Sits a hermit

A monk named Dave

And his dog, Kermit.

Twenty years of meditation

Twenty more of contemplation

On the meaning of this life

Should he smoke, or take a wife?

A family would be nice of course

Probably end up in divorce

He decides it’s his karma

To stay here and practice dharma

So in a cold and draughty cave

With his dog, sits hermit Dave.
