Long Life Prayer for Ringu Tulku (PDF)

“The most peaceful essence of clear light,
Arisen as the changeless form of illusion,
Free from any sign of age and decay,
May he live forever as the Buddha of long life”

Composed by His Holiness Gyalwa Karmapa 17th.

It is recommended that this be recited daily, to protect Rinpoche, promote good health and ensure his long life. Bob Whiteside, from Ireland, requested the Karmapa write this prayer at Bodhgaya during the 26th Kagyu Monlam. It was written on January 17th 2009 and presented to Rinpoche in Siliguri, India at that time.

Under the Bodhi tree
Dawn to dusk, I prayed
With monks, nuns
And people around the world.

The melodies of chants,
The sweet calls of birds and
The wise words of Karmapa
Brought me peace and joy.

I share this joyful tranquility
To all who love me and
Those who hate me too
May you enjoy a happy New Year.

Another year has passed.
Many changes took place
Many dreams got crushed
Loved ones we have lost
Great beings passed away
Sufferings we have seen all around.

We have faced those challenges
Great things have happened
New hopes have arisen
Many things we have learnt
What a year it has been!
There was not a moment of dullness.

Another year is about to start
With the same vigour and excitement
What a challenge it will be
To keep the love in our hearts
And the will to work for our vision
‘To bring love and joy in every heart.’

Let us rekindle love, friendship, gratitude,
joy and enthusiasm in us today.

Let us live each day as a New Celebration.

It was the merry Christmas day.
The wise men saw a shining star
A baby was born in a humble home.
That was the beginning of a bright new hope.

The star of limitless love,
Can shine in every humble heart.
And that is the beginning of a new hope
For this world that is full of hate.

Love thy neighbors as you love thyself
Do unto others what you want to be done
This Golden Rule of your and all those enlightened
Will ensure us peace and joy on this earth.

Let us remember Jesus on this day.
Let us remember all the messengers of peace.
Let us celebrate a merry Christmas
And try to remember his real message.

I invoke the blessings of omniscent and omnipotent,
I invoke the blessings of All enlightened and realised beings,
I dedicate all the power of positive deeds that I have done and will do.
May the suffering of violence and bloodshed come to an end in this world.

The cause of violence is hatred, greed, jealousy and prides humiliated.
May the people of this world learn to love their nieghbours and understand each other.

May we learn to tolerate the varieties of peoples, cultures, beliefs and ideas.
May we be able to clear all misunderstandings and ignorance.
May we be able to help each other and not harm each other.
May we learn to live and let live.

She was still dancing at eighty-five
And singing at ninety.
She aged gracefully
And died peacefully.

In her ever smiling face,
You would never notice
The painful life that she lived
In the bloody 20th century.

She lost her husband
To the Chinese bullet
And both her sons
One after another

She lost everything
That she considered hers
Including the country
And the civilization that she loved.

What she didn’t lose was her spirit.
“There is no time to be miserable,” she laughed,
“If we can’t do something useful,
At least live it joyfully.”

She always had a candy
For everybody she met
Whether old, young or a baby
She offered a candy and a smile.

It is a joy to learn how to be what I am.

I seek to learn about the world around me.
I seek to learn about what I actually am.
I seek to learn how to be a proper human being.

Clouds show me the nature of my world.
Rivers show me the nature of myself.
Babies show me how to be more human.I am a student.

I will be a student as long as I live.
And it is a pleasure to be a student.
